Ellarigu Yugaadi Habbada Haardhika Shubhaashayagalu!!
This is the first time in many years that I am not in India for Ugadi, and yet the enthusiasm and fervour with which the festival is celebrated among the Kannadiga folks in the US is equal to or more than anything I have seen in India. It has been a similar pleasant surprise to me to get to know a professional band of talented and dedicated musicians - the Raaga team - who have been performing Kannada songs with a passion for many years now. The other surprising thing for me has been the song selections, which span an amazing variety of genres and eras of Kannada film music- this at a time when, in Bangalore, you will only hear songs released in the past one year and a handful of golden oldies.
I know Raaga has a formidable reputation and it is indeed an honor to be invited to perform alongside them. Given tight schedules, I am arriving only on the morning of the show, so getting a rehearsal done will be 'interesting'. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of die hard Kannada music enthusiasts, and performing for what I hope will be a sell out crowd!
See you all soon!

Practices / Ticket Sales on in full swing!
Practices are on in full swing.. It is fun to see singers and musicians scrambling to work on the songs and chorus...It also give us a chance to socialize with many folks who we meet only during Raaga time.
Ticket sales are going great! It is always encouraging when people buy tickets with confidence. Encouraging words like "Oh Khandita barteeve" "Raaga program gottu bidee" gives the team a lot of hope and energy to put in the hundreds of hours into making the show a reality.
I am also amazed at how bay area kannadiga volunteer force takes their tasks so seriously..Other peripheral support teams have shown amazing professionalism in planning this show..hats off!!
Stay tuned...We are just 2 weeks away!

Song list frozen - time to work on them!
Aha!! Finally the song list is canned. Now the we can focus on music. It is funny , how hard it is to eliminate songs to come down to final 20 songs. This process usually takes the longest time in the show for the selection team. Taking 100's of songs as inputs and then going through many cycles of "yeh"s and "nay"s..
I am happy that we have a wide range of songs from the 60's to the 2008's..I am sure everybody in the audience is going to be fairly satisfied...keeping my fingers crossed.
Looking forward to the challenge of orchestrating these songs and presenting to our patrons. April 5th is 4 weeks away!
